So you want to Organize
and bring the union into your shop?
Are you ready for a long process?
Are you ready to beg? And beg some more?
Are you ready to jump throw loops?
I was told the days of signing cards and going to vote is a thing of the past. As he said the cards thing was like fish in a barrow.
Now with the Local 501 – has determining factors:
Phase 1- They give you business cards to pass out to the ones that are interested in the union.
They are instructed to call – text – or e-mail. This is a way to show the union you are interested in the union. Once a bench mark is made, you move on.
Phase 2- Home visits. Ya I said WTF
A page from the 1940’s play book – talked about it twice. But it seems like the thought was dropped.
Phase 3- Meeting – it may take some time for the meeting to begin (3 months). This is where you will learn about the union –
The union will learn why you want to go union. You know what you have now, you will learn what may be possible.
For us: we all know that the situation is as clear as night and day. It’s a no-brainer
Some brief explanations of union busters. You will learn what the law is and what are your rights.
The law, 30% of the people must be interested for the Union to contact the NLRB for a vote.
Don’t get to happy.
Everyone knows, you need 50% plus 1 to win a vote. What kind of bargaining power is 50% plus1?
The company will drag their feet – easy for the numbers to change.
The Union has its own bench mark, 70%
They need 70% face to face at the meetings – so people have to show up. Then maybe move on
Phase 4- Mission statement signed and dated.
This is a short statement way you want the union and it must be signed by everyone that is interested. I’m sure they also need 70% on this as well.
WOW: he sends e-mail talking about mission statements. The last meeting, Him and 2 other guys looking for a blank mission statement to use as an example. Finally he prints one out from his computer. Take it home Tuesday night – Fix out to be used, have it signed and dated (100%) of the people signed it.
Return it on Thursday night – in one breath he is saying good job – in the next breath is making the comment “next time you do something – let him know” LOL like you give me all the information, expect me to sit around with my thumb up my ass??
Really – too old for games, If he did not want it done why give me the information – or at less tell me to wait. Bunch of fools – did this union really change at all?
Maybe in a few weeks we can move to phase 5 – providing the other group gets moving.
Phase 5- authorization cards, the cards must be signed by everyone that wants to be represented by the union. I’m sure the union would want 70% or better. (We have 100%)
This gives the union authorization to represent you. I would think at this point the union would contact the NLRB to get the vote date.
But still working through phase 4 & 5, not sure how many phase “ways to beg” we still have to go throw.
Do know, they will monitor everyone closely. Any wavering – loss of support the Union will pull the request for the vote.
1) Some miss understanding. Some think the union Stewart is picked by the union. The employee vote for the Stewart.
2) The employees vote to accept the contract. Do not accept a bad contract. It may take time to get what you want – what you deserve.
NOTE: Slot techs,
The local 501 is primary in engineers union. You will find the meeting times tend to be for the convenience of the engineers. You may feel like an unwanted step child at times but keep your hard up and be strong.
|Union Local 501||
Many of you know when it comes to people posting about unions. I voiced my own opinion based off of past experience with the 501.
I was not so much anti-union but I sure was anti 501.
Many times I have not seen a reason for the union as I have worked for some really good companies. When people post what they make back east and how they are treated – yes they have a reason for a union
I have always been a firm believer that if I set down and they tell me, what the job is how much it pays and other benefits. It was up to me to accept it or not. And I would always have a right to look for something else. Still believe that.
Tropicana Las Vegas (Jan 2002)
But what do:
when you did that, and you get a new owner? That
strips all your vacation time down to two weeks, take
away a few holidays. Lowers the pay for anyone new. Etc.
etc. But for other people that are Union they have no
problems giving them the 3 and 4 weeks’ vacation time
pay raise etc. etc.
was very impressed with Kevin knowledge his overall attitude. All I can say about the changes of the 501 is WOW. They have changed a lot. Even have training for slot techs.

INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS
LOCAL 501-LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
PAYROLL DEDUCTION AUTHORIZATION
TROPICANA HOTEL (SLOTS)
I, the undersigned, Becoming a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 501, hereby request and voluntarily authorize the Employer to deduct from my wages or compensation due me, the regular monthly dues, applicable to the members in accordance with the Constitution and the by-laws of the Union.
This authorization shell remain in effect unless I revoke it by sending written notice to both the Employer and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 501, by certified mail. Subsequent to the date of termination of the applicable contract between the employer and the Union, whichever occurs sooner, and shall be automatically renewed from year to year unless revoked as herein provided.
WOULD SUGGEST JUST paying the Union - Not the PAYROLL DEDUCTION
Can only stop it at the end of the year and have a 10 day window.
Can only stop it at the end of the year and have a 10 day window.

only the area in orange can be changed. everything else is automatic changed.
you know what you're making now, and what you pay for insurance.
it's not 100% correct but it is close enough to give you some ideal. biggest problem in Tax and what people pay on insurance.
Nevada Right to work
1. No employee in the United States can legally be required to be a full-dues-paying, formal union member. But in many states, an employee can be forced to pay certain union dues or be fired from his or her job.
2. Union members have the right to resign from formal membership at any time. However, dues deduction authorizations may limit when they can be revoked.
3. Employees covered by state Right to Work laws can not lawfully be required to pay any union fees to keep their jobs. But state Right to Work laws do not protect railway and airline employees and employees of private-sector contractors on some federal properties.
